I could not sleep yesterday night
May be there was something that wasn’t right
I struggled hard to find what was amiss
And now I realize it was that “parting kiss”.
It all started in the afternoon when both of us met
I don’t know what it was about her that made my palms go wet
We had known each other for ages, but still I found it difficult to talk
May be it was, her glaring at me, that came to me as a shock.
Next we did some window shopping
And now thankfully, I did most of the talking
Off then we went for a little market survey
We kept hopping through various showrooms, whichever came in our way.
Both of us unwound and were really enjoying each other’s company
I could see those grins on her face, not one but so many
Somewhere amidst all this, I kept my hand on her shoulder
She didn’t seem to like it, and maybe this move was a bit bolder
I immediately withdrew my hand, being the perfect gentleman
However, later I wondered what was wrong about a reassuring palm
I took her to the park & we sat under the evening sky
While I looked at the stars, she noticed the buildings that were so high
It was when I began to delve into the moment, that her phone started to ring
She had to get going & would no longer listen those songs I was about to sing
To return back home, we finally took an auto
It was in here that we first discussed our motto
I told her a lot of things, with love and laughter all mixed up
And somewhere, somehow the request of a parting kiss was put up
She refused, smilingly which was quite natural
But god knows what got over me, I got so emotional
We finally reached her place!
But little did I find solace!!
It was election time & the atmosphere was all charged up there
There was crowd all over & it seemed we were standing in a fair
There was so much work to be done, she said, finding it hard to believe,
that she had missed so much crucial action which she wanted to relive.
I knew my presence there was making her uncomfortable
And there was a long period of silence, broken by my babble
I sat in the auto to leave, and uttered the words “parting kiss” feebly again
She was talking on the phone, probably din’t hear me & my effort was again in a vain
I never got that parting kiss
And It is something that I really miss
Now I wonder whether asking for it was a good idea or bad
And after all that happened, Should I be happy or be sad?
